The purpose of place
non-expansive import soil beneath concrete slabs is to create a buffer
zone with sufficient thickness to combat the ill effects of potential
heave if the subsurface clay soils are activated. In addition, the
import soil provides the requisite support for the concrete slab.
Instead of placing a sufficient thickness of import soil beneath
concrete slabs, a product generally referred to as a void form can be
utilized. SureVoid® Products, Inc. is a major fabricator of void forms.
