Slab Systems - Void Boxes

The purpose of place non-expansive import soil beneath concrete slabs is to create a buffer zone with sufficient thickness to combat the ill effects of potential heave if the subsurface clay soils are activated. In addition, the import soil provides the requisite support for the concrete slab. Instead of placing a sufficient thickness of import soil beneath concrete slabs, a product generally referred to as a void form can be utilized. SureVoid® Products, Inc. is a major fabricator of void forms.

The SureVoid® system is comprised of corrugated paper products that create a space between the concrete structures and expansive soils. The SureVoid® system must be used in conjunction with grade beams or structural slabs. The system provides a temporary support for the concrete until the structural slab sets and can support itself across the footings. The SureVoid® system is designed to gradually absorb moisture and lose strength after the concrete has set. This creates a space that will allow the clay soils to expand without causing damage to the overlying structure.
