A foundation is the
most important part of the engineering system. All engineered
construction resting on earth must be carried by some type of
interfacing element called a foundation. Foundation elements must be
proportioned both to interface with the soil at a safe stress level and
to limit settlements to an acceptable amount.
Foundation may be
classified based on where the load is carried by the ground, producing:
- Shallow Foundations
- Deep Foundations
Our steps taken to
determining the type and design of the foundation consist of the
following:
- Locate the site and position of the
load. A rough estimate of the foundation load is usually provided by
the client.
- Physically inspect the site for any
geological or other evidence that will have to be taken into account
when making the design or giving a design recommendation.
- Establish a field exploration
program and, on the basis of what is found in the initial phase, set up
necessary supplemental field testing and any laboratory test program.
- Determine necessary soil design
parameters based on integration of test data, scientific principles and
engineering judgment.
- Design the foundation using the soil
parameters from step 4. The foundation will be economical for the
project and practical construction tolerances and local construction
practices will be taken into account.
